I updated to the new 3.0.779 package, and VPNs no longer work for me.
My VPN client connects from the NAS, and are set as default GW. However traffic all blackholes at that point.
Tried rebooting and reinstalling. No dice.
I finally manually downloaded https://download.qnap.com/QPKG/QVPN_3.0 ... x86_64.zip and installed the older version, and VPNs work again.
Something may be broke in the current version?

Just to let you know:
On my two clients (TS-251, TVS-471) updating QVPN-App to 3.0.779 wasn't enough, they needed to update the NAS Firmware to QTS 5.0.0.2131 build 20220815 as well.
For the firmware there is a releasenote which might point to this issue:
Fixed an issue in Network & Virtual Switch where static routes would occasionally disappear when users established VPN connections and created sync jobs in HBS3.
Even if we weren't talking about HBS, QNAP seems to have something in the area of VPN.
At the end in the combination new QVPN and latest Firmware, it works now as before and as expected.

Update after 2 days with 2.4.746 now: it seems much more stable. I didn't have the "grey dot" issue anymore. Connection is solid, and when it gets disconnected, it now reconnects properly. Fingers crossed....
(I also have the latest beta firmware).

Well, a new issue replaced the previous one... I'm currently in a situation where the VPN is connected fine, with the green dot, but for some reason the proxy server is not using it anymore, although vpn is configured to be used as the NAS gateway. Proxy goes directly to the internet with the internet box wan ip instead of the VPN, which is not wanted
Disconnecting and then reconnecting manually the VPN solves the issue, but of course this is annoying. So the base problem is only partially solved.

...another day, another issue. If the internet connection is lost for any reason, for example for an internet box firmware update, the VPN never reconnects automatically. I waited for more than 30 minutes, nothing.
You have to connect to the nas, open the QVPN client, and connect manually to the defined open vpn profile.. This is extremely annoying too.

Ok, due to this post - I noticed that QuTS Hero h5.0.0.2120 build 20220804 had been made available since I last posted about my VPN blackholing issues on 3.0.779. (I'm running QuTS HERO on my TVS-h1288x.)
I upgraded to QuTS Hero h5.0.0.2120 build 20220804 from h5.0.0.2069 build 20220614. After upgrade, I then re-upgraded to QVPN 3.0.779.
I re-tested, and blackholing issues remain with .779
Here's my testing on h5.0.0.2120 build 20220804:
With QVPN v3.0.779:
- Log on to QNAP device shell.
- Run curl http://checkip.dyndns.org
Output: <html><head><title>Current IP Check</title></head><body>Current IP Address: A.A.A.A</body></html> - Connect QVPN to VPN server
- Run curl http://checkip.dyndns.org
Output: curl: (6) Could not resolve host: checkip.dyndns.org
After downgrading QVPN v3.0.771: (from https://download.qnap.com/QPKG/QVPN_3.0 ... x86_64.zip )
- Log on to QNAP device shell.
- Run curl http://checkip.dyndns.org
Output: <html><head><title>Current IP Check</title></head><body>Current IP Address: A.A.A.A</body></html> - Connect QVPN to VPN server
- Run curl http://checkip.dyndns.org
Output: <html><head><title>Current IP Check</title></head><body>Current IP Address: B.B.B.B</body></html>
The VPN server is the same openvpn server in both cases. The newer version simply does not work.

Hi there, I have an issue with QVPN v3.0.779 which disconnects every 3 minutes. I want to regress to v3.0.771 however the link in your post fails for me <access denied>
Is there somewhere else that I can get a copy please

Ugh, it looks like they pulled the file down?
Wonder why they would take an old version down to prevent people from downgrading? Maybe a big security vulnerability?
In any case, I'm not sure the best way to get it now - I would not recommend getting from a random stranger on the Internet. Maybe open a support case and point out this thread?

Yes, it was for a security issue - https://www.qnap.com/en-us/app_releasen ... hoose=QVPN
After updating to QVPN Service to 3.0.779 I had all sorts of issues maintaing my normally very stable VPN connection (PIA), so after fiddling about for a while and only attempting getting the previous version after it had been pulled, I got back on the beta program and updated my (TS-251D) to firmware version: QTS 5.0.1.2137. Seems to be stable once again, but ymmv.

I have been running QTS 5.0.1.2173 and the reconnect problem keeps happening. The QuLog center shows "[Network & Virtual Switch] Failed to connect to the internet. System default gateway "Virtual Switch 1" and all adapters failed to connect to the internet after checking NCSI." and about 2h33min later "[Network & Virtual Switch] Interface "Adapter 1" disconnected". There are no connection attempts after the first event is logged and I have to locally reboot the machine to be able to connect again.

I had high hopes for this new firmware version Firmware versionQuTS hero h5.0.1.2192 Build 20221020 but again the VPN just does not work. Support closed my case weeks ago when I wouldn't let them remote in to my NAS. What option is left here? It's been months since I could connect my VPN.

Actually the update did fix the issue for me. I made some other changes in the last couple months (jumbo frames being one of them) and what was blocking traffic for the VPN was actually an incorrect MTU setting on my router LAN interface.

Spoke too soon...My NAS locked up to the point I had to hold the power button in and now that it's booted up it refuses to use the VPN as the gateway again.

I deleted all my profiles and re-added them with a TCP profile and it appears to be working normally now. I had 1 session open for about 2 week and it just disconnected and reconnected automatically. Fingers crossed that fixed the issue.
