People are always impressed with a Bundt pan. When in reality it is the simplest way to make a cake.

How to make a Texas Sheet Cake in a Bundt Pan

This Bundt cake starts with a chocolate cake mix {chocolate fudge}. I followed the measurements for the cake as the back of the box instructed but wanted to make an elevated cake.

I started with milk instead of water. This will help give you a more flavorful cake. I then used melted butter instead of vegetable oil. Butter is always better! Then finally 3 eggs.

Combine the ingredients using a hand held mixer {or mix by hand} for about 2 minutes or as your cake mix instructs.

Pour the cake batter into your Bundt pan. Be sure to prepare the Bundt pan by spraying it liberally with nonstick cooking spray before starting.

Spread the batter out into an even layer.

Bake the cake in a 350 degree oven for 45ish minutes or until a tooth pick inserted near the center of the cake comes out almost clean.

We don’t want to over bake this cake. A really good Texas Sheet Cake is moist and delicious, so if there are a few crumbs on the tooth pick go ahead and pull it out. We just don’t want uncooked batter.

Cool the cake on a cooling rack for about 10 minutes. Then using a butter knife {or off-set spatula}, to run around the perimeter of the cake.

This helps to loosen up any spots the cake might be sticking. You can also go around the inside ring.

Then invert the cake onto your serving plate and let it cool completely.

How to turn a Boxed Cake Mix into an Extraordinary Bundt Cake Recipe

  • Make your added ingredients count. Replace your water with milk and the vegetable oil with melted butter. Both of these ingredients will give you a spectacular flavor and texture.
  • Liberally spray your Bundt pan with nonstick spray and use a nonstick Bundt pan. Bundt pans are notorious for cakes sticking to them but with the right preparation you can help with that. Start with a good pan and spraying the pan liberally with nonstick spray are my best suggestions. You can also lightly flour {for white/yellow cakes} or cocoa powder {for chocolate cakes} to help even a little more.
  • Bake the cake until there are only a few crumbs left on the tooth pick. Over baking a Bundt cake can make it dreadfully dry. If you pull the cake when there are only a few crumbs instead of when the tooth pick is clean it will help immensely.
  • Let the cake cool for at least 10 minutes in the Bundt pan before you invert it. Allowing the cake to cool for at least 10 minutes in the pan will let the cooling process do some of the work for you. If you try to invert your cake too soon, the cake will almost always stick.
  • Invert the cake onto the pan you plan to serve it on. Bundt cakes can be hard to move, so inverting your cake directly onto the serving plate you plan to use will eliminate any unnecessary moving of the cake.

Chocolate Pecan Cooked Frosting for Texas Sheet Cake

When the cake is almost completely cooled, turn your attention to the frosting. In a small sauce pan combine butter, milk and cocoa powder. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is melted.

Once it is melted, remove it from the heat, add the powdered sugar. Stir to combine. I like to use a whisk because it will help remove any lumps from the powdered sugar.

Then finally add the chopped pecans and pour the frosting over the top of the cooled cake.

The luxurious and delicious frosting will fall over the sides and create a beautiful glossy look.

Once the frosting is set up {which is only about 20 minutes}, the cake is ready to serve.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1-15.25 oz. box chocolate cake mix {I used chocolate fudge}
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup butter {melted}
  • 3 eggs

Chocolate Pecan Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup pecans {chopped}

Instructions

Cake

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Spray Bundt pan liberally with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

  • To prepare cake batter: Combine cake mix, milk, melted butter and eggs to medium bowl and stir either by hand or with hand held mixer until well combined. Pour prepared batter into greased Bundt pan.

  • Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out with only a few crumbs. Cool in pan for 10 minutes and then invert onto cake plate and cool completely.

Chocolate Pecan Frosting

  • Combine the first 3 frosting ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat and whisk until the mixture has melted. Remove from heat, add powdered sugar and whisk until smooth. Add chopped pecans and stir until completely incorporated.

  • Pour frosting over cooled Bundt cake.

  • Let frosting set and serve. Keep your Texas Sheet Cake Bundt Cake covered with plastic wrap and refrigerated for up to 4 days.
